KATHMANDU, Nepal - Over 28,900 tourists have visited Sagarmatha National Park, home to Mount Everest, in the past six months, according to Nepal's Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC).

During the current fiscal year, which began in mid-July 2023, 28,390 tourists have visited the park, DNPWC spokesperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsina said. Of them, 2,315 were foreign tourists and 26,075 were domestic tourists. The park is a popular trekking destination, and tourists come from all over the world to hike to Everest Base Camp and see the world's highest peak.

The park is also home to a variety of wildlife, including snow leopards, Himalayan tahrs, and musk deer. Tourists can also visit the Tengboche Monastery, one of the most important Buddhist monasteries in the Himalayas.
