Xavien Howard Injury

Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard to depart team

Star cornerback Xavien Howard and the Miami Dolphins are parting ways after the 2023 season.

Howard, who has been with the Dolphins since 2016, is set to become a free agent in March.

The Dolphins have decided not to pick up Howard's $13.2 million option for 2024, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Howard is now free to sign with any team, and he is expected to be one of the most sought-after free agents on the market.

Howard has been one of the NFL's best cornerbacks over the past several seasons. He has been named to the Pro Bowl three times and was a first-team All-Pro selection in 2020.

However, Howard has also been injury-prone. He missed 11 games in 2022 due to a foot injury, and he has missed a total of 26 games over the past three seasons.

The Dolphins are expected to move forward with Noah Igbinoghene and Kader Kohou as their starting cornerbacks in 2024. Igbinoghene and Kohou both played well in Howard's absence in 2022.
