Athletics Seth Brown Getting Day Off Vs Lefty

Athletics' Seth Brown: Getting day off vs. lefty

Brown has started all 12 games against right-handed starters this season

Pinch-hit in seventh inning Tuesday

Seth Brown has been one of the A's most consistent hitters this season, but he'll be getting a day off Wednesday against Los Angeles Angels left-hander Reid Detmers.

Brown has started all 12 games against right-handed starters this season, hitting .321 with two home runs and six RBIs. But he's just 2-for-19 (.105) against lefties, with both hits coming against the Angels' José Suarez on April 20.

A's manager Mark Kotsay said Brown's day off is more about giving him a break than anything else. He's played in all 28 games this season, and Kotsay said he wants to keep him fresh for the long season ahead.

"He's been swinging the bat well," Kotsay said. "I just want to give him a day to rest. We've got a long stretch of games coming up, so I want to make sure he's ready to go."

Brown said he's feeling good and is ready to play whenever Kotsay calls on him.

"I'm just trying to stay ready," Brown said. "Whenever my name is called, I'm going to be ready to go.

Brown pinch-hit in the seventh inning of Tuesday's game against the Angels and grounded out.

The A's are scheduled to face three left-handed starters in the next four games, so Brown could be in line for more playing time soon.
